Ronald McDonald, The Colonel and Carrier
(Syracuse, N.Y., December 2, 2002) ¿ Most of Carrier¿s historical moments include prestigious air conditioning installations or developments in the field, but Carrier also is a leader in commercial refrigeration. Although keeping people cool is a high priority, food needs to stay fresh, too!
In 1930 Carrier Corporation was formed through the merger of Carrier Engineering Corporation, York Heating & Ventilating Corporation and Brunswick-Kroeschell. Brunswick was a pioneer in commercial refrigeration, with equipment dating back to 1890. However, the invention of the picture-frame container refrigeration unit by Carrier in 1968 led to the creation of a new business, keeping cool large shipping containers to transport perishables such as bananas. In the late-1990s, Carrier re-entered the commercial refrigeration business, through a series of acquisitions including Tyler Refrigeration and Specialty Equipment Companies.

Carrier Transicold provides transport refrigeration, which maintains constant and scientifically controlled temperature and humidity on land and at sea. The systems cool the food and gently circulate clean conditioned air around the food, reducing losses from spoilage.
Refrigeration is extremely important in locations such as smaller islands and cruise ships. Giant freezers and coolers store food for an entire voyage, and there are no service men or repair shops in the middle of the ocean!
Meats, fruits, vegetables, dairy products and even flowers are all kept fresh thanks to Carrier refrigeration systems. Merchants are able to buy in larger quantities, get better prices and reduce spoilage to the vanishing point.
Carrier Commercial Refrigeration manufactures more than just freezers and refrigerated display cases. Among its many products are Taylor shake machines, Beverage Air bottle coolers, World Dryer electric hand dryers, Bloomfield commercial coffee equipment and Wells waffle bakers.

It provides engineered equipment to internationally known quick service restaurant chains, grocery markets, convenience stores, specialty chains, soft drink bottlers, brewers, coffee roasters and others.
In addition to manufacturing standard equipment, every Carrier Commercial Refrigeration manufacturing facility is designed for flexible assembly procedures and short production runs, to quickly respond to the competitive market demands that its customers experience. Carrier Commercial Refrigeration develops special equipment to meet specific requirements of national chains such as McDonald¿s and KFC. In fact, earlier this year Taylor Company was honored by KFC for its contributions to the chain¿s worldwide success. Taylor was chosen in recognition of its outstanding contributions as the soft serve equipment supplier to KFC. Taylor has supplied soft serve equipment to KFC locations in Thailand, Singapore, the UK, South Africa, China and Kuwait, and is currently rolling out equipment to restaurants in the UAE and Qatar, with Oman soon to follow.
